The cheek of it!

Celebrate the bum in its full glory with this intimate and fascinating exhibition from Dean Raymond Gooch at the NGCA in Sunderland.

Dean Raymond Gooch is a Sunderland-born artist who graduated in Fine Art in 2025, specialising in photography and printwork with an interest in gay culture and history. ‘Bottoms’ is his first solo UK exhibition and it showcases a mix of photos, risographs and screenprints delving into queer identity, communities and fetishes with the use of, you guessed it, backsides. Taking huge inspiration from pop art, fashion photography and researched stereotypes, this hedonistic display sees colourful hankies, tight jeans, fetish gear, props and bold colour combinations used as both a way to challenge the homophobes and celebrate our cultures and pride. Expect a little mild nudity and some explicit themes explored in this gorgeous installation that pushes the bum up front and centre. MW

Dean Raymond Gooch: Bottoms, until 26 May, Northern Centre for Contemporary Art, National Glass Centre, Sunderland, 10am-5pm, free. sunderlandculture.org.uk
