Hearth and soul

The Hearth Centre Spring Art Fair & Open Studios event is nigh, featuring a weekend absolutely thrumming with soul-lifting creativity (and the best homemade cakes you’ve ever tasted).

The Hearth Centre in Horsley, Newcastle, is a pretty magical place at the best of times. A hub of creativity and community, they run a vibrant programme of workshops, well-being activities, and various different groups throughout the year. From theatre to film to artist-led workshops, there’s invariably something good going on at The Hearth. And this April they’re holding their ever-popular Spring Art Fair and Open Studios event. This will give visitors the chance to explore artists’ studios, along with guest artists’ stalls, and outdoor exhibits. And whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind piece, are curious about the creative process, or just love the village vibe – you’re sure to find something that will suit. In all 22 passionate artists will be involved including Jane Charles and her exquisite glassware (that’s her work pictured). There will also be ceramics, prints, original paintings, textiles, jewellery, willow work, soap and bath products and more besides. Oh, and while you’re there you simply MUST call into the Hearth Café. It’s one of the finest of its kind in the north-east. DP

Spring Art Fair & Open Studios, Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 April, The Hearth Centre, Horsley, Newcastle, 10am-4pm, free entry. More details: thehearth.co.uk
