Big sound, Little Buildings

On the first day in May, Newcastle venue Little Buildings is hosting a quartet of north-east bands who know more than a thing or two about turning things up to 11.

If you fancy attaching jump-leads to your Spring based gig-going adventures, then this night will definitely do the trick. Four bands, all good, and a ticket price that will leave you with change out of a tenner. The whole caboodle is being put on by Handmade Music and includes talents such as Detroit. This trio never spare the horses and their power-punk-rock has a very Sub-Pop mashed up with a night out at CBGBs vibe. Also going through their paces will be alt-rockers Prince Bishop (pictured). This Durham outfit are back with an expanded line-up and more intense sound – just perfect for these complicated times. Now a tight four-piece, they’ve deepened their prog and experimental leanings, and, building on their spacey, shoegaze-infused roots, they’re now replete with soulful vocals, waves of delayed guitars, driving drums, psychedelic flourishes and big choruses. Completing the bill are GhostLamp (these noise makers bang out high-energy rock with bags of chutzpah) and Nomad Anthem (who will be delivering a pop-punk acoustic set). Boom! DP

Detroit + Prince Bishop + GhostLamp + Nomad Anthem, Friday 1 May, Little Buildings, Newcastle, 7pm, £8, fatsoma.com
