A good buffeting
You may have seen the very brilliant and very up-and-coming Elijah Young (pictured) in the BBC hit sitcom ‘Smoggie Queens’ a couple of years ago. Young also penned the very excellent ‘The Cold Buffet’ which was another hit when it played at Live Theatre in Newcastle a couple of years back. It concerns Ellis, and how things are never easy for him when his family get together. There’s a dad who doesn’t get him, a cousin who can do no wrong, a passive-aggressive grandma (emphasis on the aggressive rather than the passive), dad’s latest intolerable girlfriend, and grandpa – who is in an urn. When they all get together for a wake, a wedding, and, finally, a christening – all in the back room of the local social club – tensions invariably ramp up…
