Hen Ogledd are the collaborative project of artists Dawn Bothwell, Rhodri Davies, Richard Dawson and Sally Pilkington, and their third album is another arresting listen featuring the kind of acid-folk that burns its way, rather melodically, through both your soul and brain. Its treasures are many, from the stirring anthem ‘Scales Will Fall’, which features brass and bardic spoken word that speaks of meeting social injustice with solidarity; the Super Furry Animals-like ‘Dead in a post-truth world’; and ‘End of the rhythm’, which thrums with an Age of Aquarius sense of wonder; this is an album ringing all my bells. It also wins an extra rosette for ‘Clear Pools’, a near twenty-minute opus that doesn’t waste a second. RM
