Charli xcx - Wuthering Heights
When I heard that Charli xcx was creating the soundtrack for the new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, I thought that it could either be the best or the worst idea ever. Going directly from Brat summer to a period piece set on the Yorkshire Moors is quite the left turn, but somehow it just works. Combining dissonant, disruptive sounds - such as the screech of atonal strings and foreboding drones - with euphoric synth melodies, drum machines and Charli’s signature autotuned vocals, this soundtrack embodies the clashing of two starkly opposing eras. Wuthering Heights casts off the chains of her career-defining moment, making it clear that she can’t be boxed. LT
