Maria BC won great praise for their debut album ‘Spike Field’ – an ambient classic in many people’s eyes – and their follow up is equally as enticing. It’s an altogether grittier affair with the songs running the gamut from glitchy and fuzzed up monsters to bruised-folk, which feels nicely wonky. It’s an album built from shades of light and dark – touching on everything from loss to cruelty, but it also offers up the hope of some kind of connection. A release to live with that’ll gradually reveal its charms. DP
