A sprawling concept album exploring the darker side of the music industry and the fame that comes with it. This has been a popular topic across recent album releases…but no one has done it quite like Labrinth. The production on this record is astounding - the melodramatic horns and strings sound like they’re straight out of a classic Universal monster movie score, with the stark sound of a powerful choir amping the theatrics to another level. The juxtaposition of this with the heavy electronic beats and hip-hop flavours creates a deliciously complex and layered soundscape. It’s refreshing to hear something so maximalist in an industry currently dominated by the understated. LT
