I was very excited for some new Ari Lennox after being a big fan of her last album. ‘Vacancy’ offers up more helpings of the sultry, honey-sweet contemporary R&B I’ve come to expect from Lennox, but with a little extra polish and sophistication thanks to the vintage soul flavours of jazzy saxophones, smooth piano glides and crisp snares. Playful, innuendo-packed lyrics about modern dating contrast with this old school sound to create a fresh RnB sound that is deeply sensual, yet the way Lennox doesn’t take herself too seriously makes this a really fun listen. Think late night vibes at some classy cocktail joint. LT
