Momoko Gill - Momoko

Momoko Gill is a singer-songwriter, drummer and multi-instrumentalist who has been making waves in London’s jazz-adjacent scene. ‘Momoko’ is her debut solo album, straddling genres such as jazz, soul and electronica to carve out a distinct sound that never seems to stay in one place. At times it’s groovy, then it’s ethereal and hazy, but elsewhere it’s industrial and dissonant. Many songs are steeped in political commentary, with the striking track ‘Test A Small Area’ sampling the sound of an Israeli army blowing up a Palestinian village and the simple, chant-like refrain of ‘When Palestine Is Free’ evoking solidarity with its rousing choir vocals. An incredible display of musical artistry. LT
