The seventh album from this local artist is absolutely extraordinary. She bills it as “playful, restorative, medicinal and direct” and she couldn’t be more correct because ‘PORTAL’ is pure balm for your tattered soul. Featuring new material and covers sung in a variety of languages (including everything from Old Scots to Arabic), the release utilises found sounds, drones, gongs, backwards birdsong (yep!), singing bowls and more as it begins to work its strange magic on you. Its incantatory nature pulls you in close, and its inventiveness holds your interest throughout. This is an artist working on a plane of her own and operating at the very top of her game. RM
