Wholesome fleecy fun
Stealing Sheep haven’t troubled the charts all that much, but for those of us that love them (and there are plenty of us), we really, really love them. I’ve followed them from the get-go and it’s been amazing to follow their sonic journey, which has evolved from their early “medieval-Kraut-folk” with psychedelic leanings to their wholesome embrace of synth-heavy, electronic art-pop on later releases such as ‘Not Real’ and ‘Big Wows’. But the silver thread that runs throughout their oeuvre is their core, distinctive sound of dextrous three-part harmonies coupled with a knack for knotty, clever melodies. And their live shows are real sights to behold, performance art in action, which never fail to leave you uplifted. Their latest stuff, produced by Joe Wills at Nan’s House Studio (inside the ever-eccentric Invisible Wind Factory), sees them plundering an aural dressy-up box containing electronic-pop, rave-pop, UK garage and PC music. Read it and Sheep. DP
