Asian voices to the fore

Discover inspiring real-life stories from South Asian women who made Tyneside their home, at, where else, the Discovery Museum in Newcastle.

This powerful exhibition of stories uses film, photographs and words to celebrate the lives of first-generation South Asian women who have made Tyneside their home. Produced by New Writing North in partnership with Search Newcastle ‘Our Voice Apni Aawaaz’ is a storytelling project made in collaboration with a group of women who live in Newcastle’s West End. Supported by artist, writer and researcher Malya Bhattacharya and filmmaker Julie Ballands, the group have shared personal stories of the journeys and experiences that have shaped their lives. The project has been funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and the Newcastle Culture and Investment Fund.
