Not Beaton around the bush

Cally Beaton is taking no prisoners with her new show ‘Namasta Motherf*ckers’, which you can see at Northern Stage in Newcastle in early February (and in Alnwick and Hexham later in the month).

Cally Beaton has been a huge wow when appearing on the likes of ‘Live at the Apollo’ and ‘QI’, but you really need to see her live to get her in full effect. ‘Namaste Motherf*uckers’ is her latest opus and it sees her plunging headlong into the subject of hitting midlife. As ever, it’s sharply witty, defiantly unapologetic, but also offering up some unexpected insights. It’s a show that combines Beaton’s comedic and storytelling chops with extracts from her provocative, stereotype-busting book of the same name. At heart ‘Namaste Motherf*uckers’ is her own story of radical reinvention – taking her from meetings in boardrooms to treading the boards (all thanks to a chance conversation with the late, great Joan Rivers). The show will also include a Q&A. JL

Cally Beaton: Saturday 7 February, Northern Stage, Newcastle, 8pm, £24, northernstage.co.uk; Tuesday 17 February, Alnwick Playhouse, 7.30pm, from £19.12, alnwickplayhouse.co.uk; Thursday 19 February, Queen’s Hall Arts Centre, Hexham, 7.30pm, from £21.50, queenshall.co.uk
