George Patrick is a composer/performer/music teacher based in the north-east and his new EP is packing instrumental wonderments that slip rather delightfully between jazz and contemporary classical. From the sparky ‘Development’, with its deft piano chords and twinkly melody sitting atop a racing drum attack, to ‘Ode To The Sleeping Dog’, featuring one of those tunes that arrow straight to your heart, to ‘The First Time You Hear This’ (think: catch-your-breath melody played on piano, which suddenly soars when the drums come in), this is sterling stuff.
