Majken is a Malmö-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who plays what she terms “gospel grunge”. What that means in effect is work that takes in piano, guitar, harp (she plays them all) that are melded into extraordinary tunes that are part hymn, part Sparklehorse invention, part Fiona Apple experimentation and honesty, and part a Beach House sense of choral wonder. In lesser hands this would be an absolute mess, but with Majken everything dovetails perfectly for one of my fave albums of 2025. Outstanding work. GM
