Alternative folk band Bear’s Den and singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery have teamed up on this new EP, and the result is stunning. The accompaniment is relatively stripped back, sticking to gentle piano and guitar melodies with an emotive fiddle solo here and there. This means that the focus is on the beautiful vocals of Lavery and Bear’s Den vocalist Andrew Davie, and the effortless way that their harmonies melt together. The simple yet striking lyrics, largely concerned with what it is to love, genuinely pulled on my heartstrings. Though just four songs long, it’s an EP that really grabs you by the throat - but in the softest, most tender way possible. LT
