Saint Motel have been ever evolving since their debut in 2009, and Afterglow feels like a culmination - it’s probably no coincidence that this is their first independent album. Sweeping orchestral sounds blend with groovy basslines, catchy indie beats and the charismatic delivery of vocalist AJ Jackson to create a uniquely elegant take on the indie-pop genre. It’s almost a direct continuation of their fourth album, Symphony in the Sky - even the covers look like they are film posters from the same franchise. Though this previous album began their journey into more cinematic territory, in Afterglow it feels fully realised. Excited to see where they take this new sound next. LT
