I loved the debut album from the north-east pair of Amy Thatcher and Francesca Knowles, which pushed accordion and drum music into some very special places, but they’ve upped the ante on this mini-album by adding some electronic flourishes to their deliriously good mix. From ‘So Far’, which begins with a plaintive, wide-screen vibe before building into a jazzy wig-out, to the album’s opener ‘Swagger Back’, which finds an infectious groove and then keeps hitting it, this is a release packing copious wonderments featuring sonic derring-do that is on an altogether higher plane.
