Smith & Liddle - Songs For The Desert
I’ve really been looking forward to the debut album from this north-east pair and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. They’re unashamed fans of smooth 70s sounds (think breezy Laurel Canyon vibes meets yacht rocking musicianship), and the nine tracks here ooze AOR goodness, replete with sumptuous Fleetwood Mac-like melodies and swoony harmonies. From the Paul McCartney-esque opener ‘Piece of You’ to ‘New Day’, which is the aural equivalent of putting the top down on your sports car and high-tailing it towards the beach, this is a release that turns its face to the sun.
