‘In Motion’ at Mima showcases artists from the Middlesbrough Collection who challenge perspectives and deepen our understanding of the world and our place within it.

I love this piece from Anwar Jalal Shemza, pictured (‘The Magic Spiral’, 1970). It really pulls you in. As does this whole show which unfolds through four key themes: Experimentation and Innovation, Repetition and Motion, Connection, and Future Unwritten. ‘In Motion’ perfectly demonstrates the invention and curiosity of artists, artists who ask big questions and spark bold ideas – whether by exploring new ways to create, or by experimenting with materials, or by imagining possible futures. Artworks encompass a wide range of media including drawing, painting, photography, installation, ceramics and jewellery.
