Dinner ladies unite!
When the Olivier award-winning Jamie Eastlake has a new play in the offing, I suggest you sit up and pay attention (he last wowed the region with the sell-out runs of his show ‘Gerry and Sewell’ at Laurel’s, Live Theatre and Newcastle Theatre Royal). His latest is set in a forgotten town that is pock-mocked with broken bus shelters and fading murals of past glory. Into this landscape a teenage football squad charges through a world of projected noise. And on hand to guide the team through unchartered waters is the one woman who wants to change everything. Big Ange. The dinner lady. She’s got this. (Warning: may contain a Neil Diamond playlist.)
Big Ange, 6-25 November, Live Theatre, Newcastle, 7.30pm (mats Thurs 13, Sat 15, Thurs 20, Sat 22 – all 2pm), from £16 (previews £11). live.org.uk
