Watch with Mother
Written by Bertolt Brecht, and translated by the region’s very own Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Rocketman etc), ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’ is a gripping story of survival, sacrifice, and the cost of war, and is infused with rhythm, song, and fierce theatricality. It sees Anna Fierling (aka Mother Courage) dragging her canteen wagon across battlefields as she does everything she can to protect her three children. The tale of resilience and moral compromise was a wow when Isango Ensemble and Ensemble 84 debuted it in Country Durham a few months back and now it’s taking it’s first bow in Newcastle with a run of shows at Live Theatre. File under ‘Unmissable’.
Mother Courage and Her Children, 23 October-1 November, Live Theatre, Newcastle, 7.30pm (2pm mats 25 & 30 Oct + 1 Nov), from £21, live.org.uk
