sombr (the musical alias of Shane Boose) is the latest face of the ‘sad boy’ genre, but the 20 year old artist’s debut album showcases much more than the gloomy indie anthems that shot him to viral fame. I Barely Know Her is packed full of addictive bedroom pop melodies that you can’t help but sing along to, with Boose’s undeniable charisma seeping through his passionate, reverb-soaked vocals and yearning lyrics. Despite the majority of the songs being about heartbreak, it has this sunny, last-few-days-of-summer feel to it thanks to the glossy production. Sad music can be fun too! LT
