Theatre Royal The Green Room 5.jpg

Green is go

The Theatre Royal’s brand new public bar The Green Room is the veritable bees knees and now open to all.

I love the Theatre Royal’s coffee and wine bar 100 Grey Street (which opened in December last year) and after calling in to The Green Room last month, I’m sure that that is going to prove another hit with discerning punters. If you’re looking to place exactly where it is, it’s located on Market Street where the former DatBar was (i.e. on the side of the theatre) and it really looks the biz with plenty of comfortable seating and a very cosy ambience. Apparently the theatre worked with architects MasonKerr and interior designers Design North (who also created the visual strategy for the aforementioned 100 Grey Street) to give The Green Room its distinctive look (and look out for the playful mural running around the walls, which was fashioned by the award-winning designer Beth Travers). Peter Davis – formerly of The Alchemist – is the Head of Hospitality and he comments: “Our vision is to create a space that fosters connection, celebrates flavour, and offers a sense of escapism—an experience we can be proud of, and one that honours the theatre’s rich history while engaging both new visitors and our loyal audiences.” I’ll drink to that.
