For radgies by radgies
The first issue of Radge features an interview with former Geordie Shore star Scotty T, which explores, among other things, his experiences with mental health and neurodivergence. The issue also takes a look at the decline in pub culture, the realities of growing up in economically deprived areas, and the beauty of Brutalist architecture, of which the north-east has its fair share. The quarterly was founded by artist and writer Meg McWilliam and she’s certainly given the magazine plenty of visual flare with its Dada-esque cut-and-paste aesthetic. She comments: “Radge is raw and it is messy. It’s become like its own punk movement. Usually ‘radge’ is such a derogatory word that has negative connotations. But why should we not reclaim it? We’re taking back that power, reclaiming that power, and actually platforming opinions and creative work from real working class people, that do matter.” In short: time to gan Radge. DP
The second issue of Radge is out in October. Stockists: Unique Magazines in Swalwell and Friday Vintage in Newcastle. More info:
