Mr Funbles' Sunday Portal at Alphabetti Theatre

The titular Mr Funbles, a mysterious interdimensional clown, did not make an appearance in this eclectic variety show, which was in fact held on a Saturday and not a Sunday. However, his surrealist fingerprints are all over it. Hosted by August Mwfanwy, who dressed as a janitor and incorporated the risk assessment for the show into the show itself, the other acts included a Seinfeld-obsessed Geordie Gremlin, an unnamed an largely silent "Victorian Lady Ghost", some carpool karaoke (about a swimming pool full of cars), and much more.

In a tiny venue such as the Alphabetti, audience interaction is almost inevitable, and this show was no exception (although we were warned ahead of time that we could avoid it if we looked at the performers with fear in our eyes). The Geordie Gremlin drew a gremlin-inspired portrait of an audience member, and there was a spoon balancing contest which I won by balancing a spoon on my nose for about a minute. Fox's Party Rings were handed out as prizes.

It was a great night out, and I hope to catch the next iteration of the show, which will apparently be held on a Sunday this time. Maybe Mr Funbles himself will even appear.
