Women Are Angry by Jennifer Cox

In this award-winning self-help book, forensic psychotherapist Jennfier Cox explores how women can learn to let their rage out through a series of case studies, from parentified young girls to wives of emotionally incompetent men. Women’s unspoken rage is a topic of interest for me, so naturally I bought this book the second I found out about it. Unfortunately, there were a lot of moments where it felt like feminism 101. Maybe that’s my privilege: I’m a member of the (relatively) younger generation and grew up in an all-female household, so the self-help elements of this book weren’t as helpful to me as they doubtless will be to many other women. More than anything, I was ready for some meaty psychological insights on how repressed anger gets stored in the body, how this leads to health conditions that women suffer with. Instead, the chapters followed an anecdotal structure that I found repetitive and mostly boring. MG
