This is the Modern world

Modern Nature’s ever evolving sound has reached new heights on their latest album ‘The Heat Warps’. They’re playing Pop Recs in Sunderland on the first day of October.

Modern Nature’s brilliance has always been their ability to blend seemingly disparate genres into a cohesive, meditative whole. At its core, the band’s music is a form of pastoral folk, often rooted in themes of nature, consciousness, and the changing of seasons. However, this foundation is enriched by liberal doses of free jazz, krautrock rhythms, and minimalist compositional techniques. This is a band that values space and silence as much as sound, allowing their music to breathe and create an immersive, transportive experience for the listener. Their albums, such as ‘Island of Noise’ and ‘No Fixed Point In Space’, are more than just collections of songs; they are conceptual journeys that reward deep, concentrated listening. That said, their latest, ‘The Heat Warps’, has seen the band pulling away from the free, open-ended approach. They’ve found themselves snapping back into something more structured, locking into fixed grooves. The result is one of the finest albums of 2025. JL
