Fall under their spell

L.A. Witch (pictured) are currently on a co-headline tour with Buttertones, which will mean hubble, bubble and double the thrills when they come to The Cluny in Newcastle this September.

L.A. Witch’s thrilling appeal lies in their masterful blend of raw garage rock energy and a captivating, gothic-tinged atmosphere. The band, comprised of Sade Sanchez, Irita Pai, and Ellie English, has a sound that feels both classic and menacingly fresh. They evoke the dark, sun-bleached mystique of their Los Angeles home, channelling influences from '60s psych-rock and '70s proto-punk to create a sound drenched in reverb and swagger. And on their recent album ‘DOGGOD’, the trio have broadened their sonics, giving them a great canvas to explore the forbidden, the forsaken and the foreboding. Also from LA are The Buttertones who never fail to captivate audiences with their unique blend of post-punk, surf rock and lounge music. Their sound is characterized by a dark, cinematic quality, reminiscent of a gritty film noir soundtrack, and in singer Richard Araiza they have someone whose crooned vocal is often laced with a sense of melancholic swagger. He’s perfectly complemented by the band’s tight, reverb-drenched instrumentation; but beyond their sonic landscape, The Buttertones possess a raw, undeniable charisma. Their live performances are a spectacle of controlled chaos, with the band members exuding an effortlessly cool and rebellious energy. They are a band that lives and breathes their art, and it’s this authenticity that draws listeners in and keeps them coming back for more. JL
