Step into MIMA this summer…
And let’s trumpet that very exciting announcement first up, because it’s been confirmed that MIMA will host the Turner Prize in 2026. It’s true! The show will mark only the second time that this most prestigious of all art prizes has been held in the region (the only other time was at Baltic in Gateshead in 2011 where it drew enormous crowds). It’s a real feather in the cap for the gallery, but, naturally, they’ve got loads of other good stuff going on before then, not least over the summer months with shows such as ‘In Motion – Middlesbrough Collection’. This extensive exhibition showcases work from artists dating back from the 1800s to the present day. Another show we’ve previously bigged up before is ‘Guided Entities’, a solo exhibition from Glasgow-based artist Zoë Tumika which spans ceramics, film and sound. There are loads of things to do for families, too, including ‘Saturday Family Art Trolley & Picnic’. This is a hands-on maker space packed with lots of exciting things. The gist? Join the gallery every Saturday with family and friends to make your own masterpiece using a range of materials and making techniques.
