Moron-o-Phonics hail from Gateshead, and if the council could harness the sheer energy that the band generate, then they’d be able to power the whole town. For make no mistake, this trio are rabble-rousers par excellence, surfing high on a wave of garage rock and roll that hits its straps from the off and then doesn’t let up. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have big melodies though, and their debut album is absolutely dizzy with them. From scuzzy party anthem ‘Prove Us Wrong’, to the woozy ‘Unsophisticated Boom Boom’, they’ve got the requisite chops. Lovely boy/girl vocal attack, too. RM
