There’s been a lot of build up to Miley Cyrus’ latest album: given the huge success of 2023’s ‘Flowers’, she had big shoes to fill. She’s even created a film about this new release, which describes itself as a ‘pop opera’. However, ‘Something Beautiful’ is a lot of fanfare without any substance. It’s stylised as a concept album - with a dramatic opening instrumental titled ‘Prelude’ and two interlude tracks (notably only one song apart) - but I’m struggling to grasp what the concept is, as all the album has to offer is flat, overproduced pop tracks about love. For me, there’s nothing beautiful to see here… LT
