Isolated Community - movement in the half-light
Newcastle’s Isolated Community deal in synths, found sounds, “things with strings”, field recordings, and other aural odds and sods (emphasis on the odd). Their latest album is simply wonderful, particularly if you enjoy being whisked off to windswept places that both beguile and are full of awe. From the folk-horror dunked ‘Bygate Hill’ (which sounds like a warped theme tune to a 1970s children’s show about evil sand dunes), to the dank ‘Ottercops Moss’, to the dirge-adjacent mysticisms of ‘Wolf Cleugh’ (parts 1 and 2), it’s a release packing wonderments.
