Many people have dismissed Addison Rae as just another TikToker trying to make it outside of the platform. However, after releasing a strong lineup of singles over the past year, Addison became one of my most anticipated albums of the year. It’s a distinctly unpolished, nostalgic brand of pop akin to Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ (which she notably appeared on), but instead of club culture, Rae leans into the persona of the 90s/Y2K pop diva - drawing from the likes of Britney and Madonna. Breathy vocals, hazy electronic melodies and shallow lyrics about “the glamorous life” dominate in this euphoric album in which she transforms from internet personality to pop icon. LT
