Local: PØRTERS

This female-fronted five-piece from Newcastle are alt-rocking heroes in the making and I was on board with them from the very first riffs.

PØRTERS first hovered onto my radar when they released their debut single ‘Recover’ – a confident chunk of tick-tocking rock replete with spiky riffs and gum-snapping sass by the bucketful. And they’ve certainly followed up all the promise of ‘Recover’ with their latest ‘The Thrill’. It’s a single that’s big on melody and big on attitude, with vocalist Maria Winter really showing what a, yep, big voice that she has. The rest of the band are also on-point and they include Kieran Taylor (guitar, vocals), James Hughes (bass, vocals), Nick Gladdish (keys, vocals) and Tom Furniss (drums). The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that most of the band contribute to backing vocals and those harmonies really give the band plenty of arena-filling like oomph. It also helps that they know how to pen mosh-pit friendly tunes and ‘The Thrill’ does what it says on the tin – unadulterated thrills from beginning to end. Exhilarating stuff. DP
