Cheeky line-up
Cheekface has built up a loyal following in the US (or “Cheek Freaks” as they sometime refer to themselves) since they formed in 2017. A three-piece from Los Angeles, they play a jaunty style of indie-rock that is further lifted by their dry sense of humour and lyrical concerns that tackle the affairs of the day – often of a socio-political nature. They’re five albums deep into their career now, and their latest ‘Middle Spoon’ (which came out earlier this year) is their best yet. It’s a fine showcase for their infectious melodies and razor sharp lyrics and it sees them injecting their indie-rock with elements of power-pop, punk, ska and even a dollop of funk. If you’re not au fait with the band, then the album is the perfect jumping in point. And their support on the night is truly stellar stuff with Pity Me’s finest Martha set to give us both indie-pop barrels. All supporting are Fresh, a London pop-punk outfit who are real live favourites. See you down the front. GM
