Here hare here!
I don’t consider summer to have started until Mary Ann Rogers – one of the region’s foremost wildlife artists – has opened her summer show. So, going by that logic, summer starts this year on 28 June.
I love a hare. My favourites are the dead hare in ‘The Wicker Man’ and the dead hare in ‘Withnail & I’ (fans of the latter will no doubt know that’s where I culled the above headline from). But I love hares that are alive too and no one captures these creatures in all their frisky glory better than Mary Ann Rogers. But she’s equally adept at capturing parading pheasants, quirky guinea fowl, or, indeed dramatic landscapes. And this spring – which has been unusually warm – has resulted in some quite exquisite landscapes from her, paintings flooded with wonderful light and colour. You can see all of the above at her new show, which is opening with two very special previews featuring bubbly, afternoon tea, and Mary’s very own cakes, scones and meringues. Sold! RM
