Myth, memory & material

Delaine Le Bas is exploring linguistics, mythology and Gypsy Roma Traveller narratives through the tactile power of textiles, language and storytelling in an extraordinary installation at Newcastle Contemporary Art.

This show feels unbound! A monumental installation spilling across Newcastle Contemporary Art’s two vast gallery spaces and beyond, it sees Delaine Le Bas’s work transforming the building into a living, breathing tapestry of interconnected stories. At the heart of it all lies a provocation: what is truth, and who gets to tell it? A red thread – rich with symbolism across Roma, Japanese and Ancient Greece mythology – runs like a pulse through the exhibition, linking both gallery spaces while serving as a metaphor for fate, connection and defiance.
