Viagra Boys’ last album made it to number 5 on my top 10 albums of 2022, so I was excited to hear what madness they came up with next. ‘viagr aboys’ turns away from the socio-political satire that characterised earlier releases, instead leaning further into the absurdity and surrealism of their lyrics to tell visceral stories. There’s an ancient woman preserved in a frozen bog here, a psychedelic fever dream of wellness cults and self-help rhetoric there, and plenty of musings on consumerism, masculinity and decay translated into the most bizarre imagery that the human mind could conjure up. It’s what I’ve come to expect from the band - delightfully nuts. LT
