Cafe Magrana is County Durham’s Joe Luca Whitehill and his fifth album represents bedroom DIY indie at its finest. It’s light on beats (hey, no drums!), but generous with its quite wonderful tunes, which have a real skew-whiff inventiveness and sweetness about them, sitting somewhere between the lo-fi wonders of Paul McCartney’s 1970 debut album (‘McCartney’) and Graham Coxon (Blur) at his most stripped back.
