If you enjoyed Billy Nomates’ first two album (and I thought they were fab) then you’re going to love this. Sonically, this time round she’s reined in her more caustic edges – her hard-hitting punky bits and bobs replaced by a more pastoral sound – but she remains one of the best lyricists around as she tries to make sense of the world and her place in it. She even ropes in The Stranglers’ Hugh Cornwell in for one track ‘Dark Horse Friend’, and it’s a song full of subtle, down-tempo delights. JL
