A Handbag!

Moira Buffini’s clever and very funny comedy ‘Handbagged’ – detailing relations between The Queen and Margaret Thatcher – is coming to Northern Stage this May.

Peter Morgan scored a huge hit with ‘The Audience’, which imagined conversations between The Queen and a long list of Prime Ministers, but for Moira Buffini’s witty play she’s concentrated on just one PM: Margaret Thatcher. Over the course of 11 years, the doors behind these behind-closed-doors meetings are finally flung open. Ronald Reagan, Denis Thatcher and an ensemble of familiar faces add to the biting satire and sharp humour as gloves are cast resolutely aside and personalities clash. This Theatre Nation Partnerships production explores the legacy of this divisive premiership, leaving audiences to question what they truly know about those who decide our nation’s destiny.

Handbagged, 13-17 May, Northern Stage, Newcastle, 7.30pm (except Tues 6pm; Sat mat 2pm), from £12, northernstage.co.uk
