Moir bang for your buck

The work of Jim Moir (AKA Vic Reeves) was a huge hit at The Biscuit Factory back in 2023, and this May he returns to the venue with even more of his idiosyncratic pieces.

Jim Moir has always been a painter. As he says: “Even while doing Vic and Bob shows, the art was always there, even when it might have looked like it was in the background. Now, though, I can sit in my studio all day, with my own schedule.” And time spent in his studio has been particularly well spent, certainly judging by the reaction of visitors to The Biscuit Factory in 2023, all of who lapped up his last exhibition ‘Hot Buttered Mattress’. That particular show was a month-long affair and it featured a myriad of real and imagined characters taken from popular culture. It was also a fine showcase for Moir’s ornithological interest, an interest that’s also very evident in his latest pieces (his ‘Puffin’, pictured, is an expressionistic thing of joy). For this latest exhibition we’re promised: “A great mix of birds and Newcastle bridges Polaroids” along with some “Quirky stuff”. Quirky stuff and Jim Moir? Surreal doesn’t cover half of it. RM
