I prescribe karaoke and lots of it

‘Shit Life Crisis’ is a hilarious new “karaoke play” coming to Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle that tackles life, death and everything in between.

That thing we call life. It’s real, it’s raw and it’s often a struggle. But armed with a microphone and a whole bunch of sing-along songs, that thing we call life can be nimbly negotiated. ‘Shit Life Crisis’ concerns Grace. She’s smashed cancer, with support from her ride-or-die mate Abbie, but victory has started to feel like something of a bad joke. Now she’s trapped in a doom-pit of streaming and scrolling. She’s tried Abbie’s 100-step plan to being alive, but she still hasn’t conquered the fear of it all… This new piece from Olivia Hannah (who scored a hit with ‘Braids’) is a darkly humorous karaoke play made by Silent Uproar Productions who have previously won huge plaudits for productions such as ‘Dead Girls Rising’ and ‘The Night of the Werewolves’. Suitable for ages 16+, ‘Shit Life Crisis’ concerns the journey of survival in the face of illness. It’s also a call to arms for audiences to sing, laugh and cry along with this music-infused tale.

Shit Life Crisis, Thursday 5-Saturday 7 June, Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle, 7.30pm, from £3, alphabettitheatre.co.uk
