All Hail Canada!

Canada has been getting a lot of love of late, and their leading contemporary dance company Ballet BC is sure to go down a storm when they bring their latest extravaganza to the Theatre Royal this May.

Donald Trump wants to buy Canada. Good luck with that you Fake Tan Führer. He’d be better off just nabbing a couple of tickets for Ballet BC’s latest. Because make no mistake, this dance troupe are among the world’s finest. Their debut appearances in the UK back in 2018 saw them receiving the kind of glittering notices that spoke of truly exceptional talents; and their return visit is sure to prompt the same kind of standing ovations they received last time. In May they’re presenting two shows including ‘Passing’. This will see legendary Swedish choreographer and long time Ballet BC collaborator Johan Inger traversing a vast landscape of human emotion, taking audiences on an epic, theatrical, and often touching ride. The other piece is ‘Frontier’ by four-time Olivier awarding-winning Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite. Featuring 24 dancers, this visionary work – examining the unknown (think: dark matter; shadows) – is absolutely breathtaking in scope. File under: Do Not Miss. RM

Ballet BC, Tuesday 27 & Wednesday 28 May, Theatre Royal, Newcastle, 7.30pm, from £15, theatreroyal.co.uk
