There will be blood…

The Star & Shadow Cinema in Newcastle is hosting a special Slasher Summer Camp this July. Nurse, the screens!

The success of ‘Friday the 13th’ in 1980 led to a glut (or spurt) of horror films, which, just like that classic, were also set in summer camps. These particular camps were usually populated by swathes of horny teens whose partying antics were cut short when an impassive maniac offed them in increasingly gruesome ways. For fans, it was a real golden age of gore, and if you’d like to grab a piece of that slice-and-dice action, then the Star & Shadow are hosting a special one-day festival that will include screenings of ‘Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives’ (1986), ‘Madman’ (1981), ‘The Final Girls’ (2015) and a special mystery film (a forgotten 1980s low-budget gem that hasn’t been shown in the UK since the days of VHS – now presented in a new 4K restoration). And – in between screenings – campers can tuck in to hot dogs and chilli, have a drink in the woods, enjoy a campfire sing-a-long, and more. Camp Counsellors will be in attendance, but look out for the Star & Shadow Slasher… RM
