A Shah is reborn

Nadine Shah is back with a startlingly brilliant new album and her latest tour will see her shaking the rafters of the Boiler Shop in Newcastle.

One of the Crack team caught Nadine Shah at the O2 Arena in London in January when she was supporting Depeche Mode. According to our correspondent at the time she knocked out a “blistering set … effortlessly filling the O2” adding “bodes very well for the next album”. Prophetic stuff, because said album, ‘Filthy Underneath’ (which came out on 23 February), is indeed a marvel. And it marks a truly triumphant return for Shah after she’d gone through a period of unprecedented turbulence in her life. The album – which contains brilliant singles ‘Topless Mother’, ‘Greatest Dancer’ and ‘Twenty Things’ – sees Shah pushing strident melodies up front and centre, and all complimented by her extraordinary vocals, which are richer than ever. Anyone who has seen her and her band perform live will know that they really knock it out of the park, and every time this Whitburn lass returns to the region is always special. DP
