Local: Electric Circus

This rabble-rousing bunch are surely among the most raucous rockers to come out of Newcastle in recent times.

A pair of incendiary singles drew me towards Electric Circus last year. ‘Some Kinda Love’ is steeped in anthemic know-how, with a melody so huge that it has its own centre of gravity. ‘Losing My Faith’ meanwhile gets almost jaunty on your ass before that rollicking chorus hits and kicks things up several notches. Not resting on their laurels, the band banged out ‘Obsession’ in February. It’s a track fired by squealing riffs and jackhammer drums. It’s also a track powered by a massive vocal attack. It’s also a track that – in short – is prepared to get down, dirty and, above all, heavy. Of it, the band say: “Obsession is helping to build on the multitude of soundscapes we want to create for our audiences. It differs from what we have done previously but is undeniably an Electric Circus song.” Indeed. This year the band have already supported the likes of Florence Black, and coming up you can see them at Newcastle’s brand new all-day multi-venue festival Aelius Alternative, which is taking place on 6 April. Should be kinda fun. DP
