Sky Surfer

Laura Misch has brought together a whole bunch of disparate elements in such an exciting way for her ‘Sample The Sky’ album. It’s one of the best debuts of the year and you’ll be able to hear her play it live when she visits Gateshead in early December.

Laura Misch is the London-based multidisciplinary artist and producer who managed to create a real stir with the release of her two EPs ‘Playground’ and ‘Lonely City’. They were real isolated, bedroom-produced works, but her album manages to be more expansive, while still feeling ever so intimate. She crafts leftfield pop songs that are awash with gorgeous rhythms, warm vocals, soulful electronica (think: Everything But The Girl etc) and saxophone flourishes. The album’s title and meaning stems partly from Misch’s journey from studying biomedical sciences at university to becoming an electronic music producer. She says: “I’ve always found parallels between biomed and music. A microphone is a microscope of sound, and a studio is a laboratory of distillation. Producing feels like you’re discovering, it feels akin to uncovering science.” However she got there, the results are stunning. GM
